Description

The Moon has no light of its own. Everything you have ever seen of it is sunlight thrown back from stone, and on the nights when only a thin crescent shows, the rest of the disk still glows faintly with light that has bounced off the Earth and traveled back. Astronomers call it earthshine. I have never found a better picture of what a reflective practice does. You do not make the light. You hold still enough to catch it.

I have loved the Moon since long before I knew a single fact about it, and the facts never spoiled it. They made the wonder sturdier. So this is a Moon deck that keeps both. It keeps the Wolf Moon and the Hunter’s Moon, Hecate at her crossroads, the rabbit in the maria, the jar of water set out under a full Moon. It also tells you, on every card, which of those things is sky and which is story. A Grounding line names what each card is made of: Sky Fact, Folklore, Myth, Modern Practice, or Symbolic Astrology, so you can love the story without confusing it with the sky.

The deck is 40 moon oracle cards in four suits of ten that follow the Moon once around. Waxing is the gathering light: beginnings, protection, earthshine, and the Moons of spring. Full is everything that has become visible: the named Moons of summer, autumn, and winter, the Blue Moon, the supermoon, the eclipse. Waning is the turning away: afterglow, endings, the tide going out, and figures from myth and folklore. Dark is the part of the month nobody sells you cards for: rest, the far side, moon water, the sky before it has been written on. Every card carries its title and a one-line essence, so a single draw reads without the book. In the 97-page guidebook each card has an Insight, a Grounding line, The Shadow, an affirmation, a simple practice, and two journal prompts.

Reach for it when you want a pause with some shape to it. Ask a question the sky can hold: not “When will this happen?” but “What stage does this resemble?” Draw, sort sky from story, and take one step. The five spreads run from the one-card One Card Beneath the Moon to the five-card Full Moon Lantern, with the two-card Dark Moon Hearth for any low-certainty day.

You can see every card and its meaning in the card explorer, or try a free three-card reading with this deck.

Created by me, Zara Grimm, for Idyllic Visions. I write the concept, the card meanings, the guidebook, and the practices, and I guide the visual development through an iterative digital workflow, shaping atmosphere, symbolism, and composition with precise creative direction. The sky follows NASA and the U.S. Naval Observatory, the Moon names follow The Old Farmer’s Almanac and Sky and Telescope, and the myths are credited to their own traditions.

Earthshine is a tool for reflection. It does not predict the future.
