What The Moon means

Modern practice maps intentions to the lunar phases. The map is symbolic but useful: waxing for effort, full for visibility, waning for release, and dark for rest.

Ask which phase you are truly in and act accordingly. In shadow, you demand constant fullness. Nothing alive is bright all the time.

I honor the phase I am in.

When The Moon appears in a reading

The Moon asks which phase I am actually in. Modern practice maps the lunar cycle to intention: waxing for effort, full for visibility, waning for release, dark for rest. The map is symbolic, but it is useful, because I tend to act as if every season should be full and bright.

That is the shadow: demanding constant fullness. Nothing alive is bright all the time, and a waning season handled as if it were a full one leaves me burned out and confused about why. When the card appears, I name the phase honestly and act to match it, including the permission to rest.

One small act of tending

Decide which phase this week is: waxing, full, waning, or dark. Choose one action that belongs to that phase.

The Moon in the Hearth Reading

The Hearth & Hedge guidebook’s three-card spread sorts one situation into what to guard, what to release, and what to feed. In each position this card tends to say:

  • Protect. Protect the phase you are actually in.
  • Clear. Release the demand for constant fullness.
  • Tend. Do one thing that belongs to this phase.
