What The Lantern means
A lantern never illuminated the whole road. It lit only the next stretch, and travelers continued anyway.
Understanding works the same way. Take the next step with the light you have, keeping it where your feet will fall. In shadow, you wait for floodlights, or use your lamp only to light everyone else's path.

When The Lantern appears in a reading
The Lantern is the card I most often draw when I am waiting for the whole road to be visible before I move. It never will be. When it appears, I ask what next step is already lit, and I take that one without demanding to see the rest.
It has a second shadow I have learned to watch for: holding the lamp for everyone else while my own path goes dark. Helping is good. Lighting only other people's roads is a way of never walking mine.
