What The Scrying Glass means
Cunning folk and scholars alike gazed into glass, water, and stone, allowing their focus to soften until patterns surfaced.
The tool trains a skill: step back instead of staring at one detail. In shadow, the glass reflects your wishes and fears back to you. Projection is not perception.
I look softly and see honestly.
When The Scrying Glass appears in a reading
I have been staring at one detail so hard that the whole pattern has gone invisible. That is when The Scrying Glass tends to surface. Gazing into glass or water trained a skill: soften the focus, step back, and let the shape come up on its own.
A soft gaze can show me the pattern, or it can reflect my wishes and fears straight back. So I sort my reading of the situation into two piles: what I observed, and what I added because I hoped or dreaded it.
One small act of tending
Step back from the problem you have been staring at: describe it to yourself in three sentences as a stranger would see it, with no hopes or fears included.
The Scrying Glass in the Hearth Reading
The Hearth & Hedge guidebook’s three-card spread sorts one situation into what to guard, what to release, and what to feed. In each position this card tends to say:
- Protect. Protect your soft focus from the urge to stare.
- Clear. Clear the wish or fear you projected onto the glass.
- Tend. Describe the situation as a stranger would.
