What The Mistletoe Dart means
In Snorri's account, every living thing swore never to harm Baldr, except the mistletoe, thought too young and small to matter. Loki found it, shaped it into a dart, and guided the blind god Höðr's hand. There is a blind spot in your situation, a detail dismissed as harmless. Find it before someone else does. The smallest exception can undo the largest protection.
The Mistletoe Dart is about the detail I already considered and waved off. What makes it a blind spot is not that it is hidden. It is that I looked straight at it and decided it did not count. The card sends me back to what I ruled out rather than to what I never checked, because the exception was made on purpose, and I am the one who made it.
In shadow, the card is betrayal through what was dismissed as harmless, or exploiting it yourself. Both directions are in the story. When I list everything I consider settled and ask what I skipped, there is usually one answer that makes me uneasy. That is the dart. The card also asks, quietly, whether I am the one aiming.

When The Mistletoe Dart appears in a reading
The Mistletoe Dart appears when I am confident about how well something is covered. The useful move is to ask who or what got an exemption, and why it seemed reasonable at the time. Exemptions are always granted for good reasons. That is exactly what makes them easy to forget.
The shadow runs two ways and the second one is the uncomfortable half. Betrayal through something I waved off as harmless, or me aiming at somebody else's waved-off detail. Knowing where a person is unguarded is ordinary knowledge. What I do with it is not.
The Mistletoe Dart is a good card for any agreement I think is airtight. Airtight is a feeling. The card asks for the list.

The Mistletoe Dart in the Crossroads Spread
The Trickster Oracle guidebook’s three-card Crossroads Spread does not find the correct road. It exposes the structure of the choice: the threshold that is actually present, the route you overlooked, and the cost you have not counted. In each position this card tends to say:
- The Threshold. The threshold is a protection with one exception in it. The exception is the whole story.
- The Unexpected Route. The route is to find the harmless-looking detail before anyone else does.
- The Hidden Cost. The cost is the smallest thing undoing the largest safeguard, or your own hand guiding the dart.
