The old household banked the hearth fire at night and coaxed it back every morning, because everything else in the house depended on it. The Hearth Fire is about my own center, and it usually surfaces when I have been giving that center away. If my warmth is low, I have less to give anyone gathered around me.
Anyone who takes care of people knows the shadow. Everyone comes to the fire; the fire burns itself to ash keeping them comfortable. Feed the center first, without apology, so there is still a fire tomorrow.
